As part of UK law, all employees must have a right to work check carried out regardless of where they were born. Our right to work check is done via the Credas site and is a Digital Identity Verification check. Once the screening has started, the applicant will receive a separate email with a link, where they can either download the Credas app or use a desktop site.
This process is separate to their application form. They must use a device with a forward-facing camera and have their identification document ready, as once the process has started, they cannot leave the site and come back to it. There is a one link per candidate limit, if their link becomes invalid we cannot generate a new link. Passports have a more successful pass rate than any other form of identification.
There is a step-by-step guide available to view and download HERE.
The basic process the candidate must follow is:
- Click on the link in the email
- Follow the instructions to download the right to work app or continue to desktop site.
- Click start
- Take a clear photo of the full Identity Document (Passports have the highest pass rate, they must ensure the full page showing their photo and the MRZ number is visible)
- Click next
- Follow the instructions to take a selfie to verify likeness
- Click complete
If this check fails or the candidate cannot complete the process, it is then your responsibility to ensure the check is carried out in house. We will inform you if this is the case. Failure to complete the check in house can result in a fine. Common reasons for a check to fail includes:
- The picture is too dark or too blurry
- There is a glare, shadow or something else obscuring the document
- They have taken the picture too close or too far away from the document
- All four corners are not in the frame
- They have taken a picture of the wrong page of the passport or the wrong side of their identity card
- The document they are using has expired
If a candidate has arrived from overseas, you can check whether their right to work share code is valid using this government site. If the candidate has not arrived from overseas, you will need to check their original ID documentation for authenticity. More in-depth information on this check and your responsibilities can be found here.
